At Malt we believe that Ambition is the Way, so all lists of missions and responsibilities are non-exhaustive.
The Situation: Malt is shaping the "New Way of Work" as Europe’s leading B2B freelance marketplace, scaling rapidly as a flagship member of the French Next40 with over 600 employees, more than 1 million freelancers on the platform, and an accelerating international growth trajectory. To sustain this hyper-growth while driving long-term profitability, financial rigor must operate at the very core of strategic decision-making. As our tech ecosystem scales, Malt’s leadership requires deep, continuous visibility into R&D capital allocation, complex infrastructure spending, and ESG sustainability reporting to guarantee that every euro invested delivers maximum return.
The Task: Act as the dedicated Strategic Financial Business Partner to our CTO and CPO (50% scope) while architecting our modern financial planning infrastructure, automation workflows, and ESG reporting frameworks (50% scope). You will own investment governance across Tech & Product OpEx and CapEx under IFRS frameworks, master advanced scenario modeling and app-building on Pigment, and deploy AI-driven financial automations to establish an institutional-grade financial engine that scales with Malt.
Pillar 1. Tech & Product Strategic Business Partnering & Investment Governance
Action: Partner directly with the CTO and CPO to challenge investment assumptions, evaluate business cases, and manage full lifecycle financial planning for engineering initiatives, cloud/IT infrastructure, and software capitalization.
Output: Institutionalized business review processes, comprehensive project business cases with documented ROI/NPV models, and strategic budget allocations.
Metrics: 100% of new Tech & Product initiatives vetted with documented ROI/NPV models prior to commitment; Variance minimization between Budget/Rolling Forecast vs. Actuals.
Pillar 2. Financial Accounting Rigor & Regulatory Compliance
Action: Lead the accounting and compliance framework for R&D capitalization under IAS 38 and oversee timesheet governance.
Output: Auditable capitalization workflows, accurate amortization schedules, and ironclad technical project accounting schedules.
Metrics: Zero audit findings on IAS 38 compliance; 100% timesheet tracking compliance across technical teams.
Pillar 3. Financial Infrastructure Architecture & Process Automation
Action: Design, build and maintain dedicated enterprise planning applications within Pigment, deploying AI and workflow automations.
Output: Production-grade Pigment models and automated reporting pipelines.
Metrics: 100% on-time deployment and company-wide adoption of internal Pigment apps; Measurable hours saved and reduction in manual cycle times via AI and Pigment automations.
Pillar 4. ESG External Reporting & Sustainability Forecasting
Action: Build and maintain the cross-functional data collection and compliance mechanisms required for external ESG disclosure frameworks.
Output: Regulatory-compliant ESG reporting packages, dynamic carbon/ESG monitoring dashboards, and forward-looking sustainability forecasts.
Metrics: 100% on-time submission of ESG external regulatory reports with zero audit discrepancies.
Proven Mastery (What you have already built):
Minimum 5 years of dedicated FP&A, controlling, or project finance experience within a fast-moving tech scale-up or international environment.
Direct experience steering financial governance for engineering, IT, or product teams, serving as a trusted advisor to senior technical executives.
Deep technical accounting mastery of IFRS standards, specifically IAS 38 software capitalization lifecycles, with a track record of clean audit sign-offs.
Built complex, dynamic financial models and multi-dimensional planning tools from the ground up (prior experience with Pigment or modern FP&A platforms like Anaplan is a strong advantage).
Full bilingual operational fluency in both French and English, capable of challenging senior leadership and writing board-level materials in both languages.
Skills You Will Deploy & Develop:
Advanced multidimensional enterprise architecture and modeling on Pigment
Executive-level business partnering, steering R&D portfolio allocation and capital efficiency directly with C-level product and technology leaders.
End-to-end ESG regulatory reporting integration, translating non-financial data into institutional-grade reporting frameworks.
This role is perfect for you if...
Thrive on being a trusted strategic co-pilot, comfortable sitting down with engineering leads to constructively challenge project assumptions, unit economics, and tech spend.
Love modern finance technology and prefer architecting scalable models in platforms like Pigment over relying on static, disconnected spreadsheets.
Embody high agency and radical ownership—you actively look for inefficiencies, initiate system improvements, and turn ambiguity into clear, automated processes.
This role is NOT for you if...
Prefer passive reporting and back-office bookkeeping rather than engaging in dynamic, cross-functional business partnering with technical leaders.
Expect static, pre-built financial processes and feel uncomfortable building workflows from scratch.
View finance in isolation from company culture, struggling to communicate complex financial constraints
Day 30: Immerse yourself in Malt’s business model and culture, building strong relationships with the finance team, CTO, and CPO. Audit the existing Tech & Product cost centers, map current IAS 38 capitalization workflows, and complete initial onboarding onto Malt’s Pigment environment to baseline the Tech & Product forecast.
Day 90: Assume full financial stewardship of the Tech & Product budget, leading rolling forecast cadences and establishing clear ROI/NPV evaluation gates for new engineering projects. Deploy your first dedicated Pigment applications (including IFRS 2/IFRS 16 modeling) and stabilize data collection pipelines for ESG reporting milestones.
Day 180: Operate with total autonomy as the strategic finance leader for Tech & Product, delivering predictable rolling forecasts and driving clean audit compliance across all CapEx lifecycles. Champion continuous process efficiency by rolling out AI-assisted automations across financial planning workflows, maximizing return on technology investments across Malt.
