Our take

Hadrian is an industrial automation company that creates autonomous factories for aerospace components. Founded by a former history student, the inspiration for Hadrian was the notion that throughout history, empires begin to fall when they outsource their core industries to lower-cost countries, resulting in internal stagnation and mass unemployment. To counter this historic trend, founder Chris Power founded Hadrian, which uses machine learning to automate the processes of component factories. Power honed in on key US industries that were lacking in scalable solutions. Aerospace and defence is one area in which the USA relies on boutique experts who lack the manpower to build at scale. This factory automation solution addresses bottlenecks in manufacturing aerospace components that slow down progress due to owner-operated machine shops. With investment from early Facebook and Airbnb investors Andreessen Horowitz, Hadrian is setting a precedent for a new era of machine work innovation. Hadrian’s main challenge will be convincing smaller manufacturers in the sector to embrace the precision and time-saving benefits of automation. With two factories now operational, Hadrian is using funding to continue its team and product growth, so as to meet the growing demand for component manufacturing.

You'll be working on

  • Hadrian is building an AI-powered operating system for the factory: one integrated platform for how we engineer and build critical parts for aerospace and defense
  • As one of Hadrian’s first product designers, you will work with key internal customers across engineering and factory operations
  • You will design the tools and automations that make our product lifecycle faster, and shape experiences that connect work across teams from end to end
  • You will report to the Product Design Lead and work from Los Angeles
  • Partner with key internal customers across engineering and factory operations, and learn their workflows firsthand
  • Design the tools and automations at the core of Hadrian’s AI-powered factory operating system
  • See how work moves across teams and functions, and design experiences that carry it from end to end
  • Define the problem, design in Figma, and ship the first working version in code with coding agents such as Claude Code
  • Work with engineers to take your work to production, and measure how it changes the way the factory runs

Benefits

  • 100% coverage of platinum medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans for employees
    401k
  • Relocation stipend if you’re moving from outside of LA
  • Flexible vacation policy

We're looking for

  • Systems thinking: you design for the whole workflow, across teams and functions
  • A record of solving complex customer problems: you can show the customer, the problem, and the measured result
  • Senior or staff-level product design experience, equivalent to Meta IC5 to IC6, with high taste and a high degree of craft in Figma and in code
  • Shipped features and products that customers adopted and that moved the business
  • Experience shipping high-stakes features at scale
  • A manufacturing background is not required
  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. Learn more about the ITAR here
  • You have designed software for industrial, operational, or high-precision work, where the product runs something physical
  • You have designed AI-powered products or agent-driven workflows that people rely on every day
  • You prototype in production code and ship it
  • You are passionate about the mission to reindustrialize American manufacturing, and want your work to shape how the country builds rockets, satellites, jets, and ships
