Our take

Law firms, corporate legal teams and government agencies are under increasing pressure to handle more work, more data and tighter timelines, all without increasing costs. As a result, demand is growing for legal technology that can automate routine tasks, organize complex information and also help laywers work faster and more accurately. AI has become a key part of this change, and today it's hard to find interest in legal tech that doesn't have AI at its core. Filevine is a good example of how this shift is playing out, Founded in 2014, the company began as a software-as-a-service platform helping legal teams manage cases, documents, billing and payments in one place. Over time though, Filevine has expanded into what it now calls a Legal Operating Intelligence System, bringing intelligence into the full lifecycle of a legal matter. And in recent years, the focus has moved strongly toward AI, as most of the company's revenue comes from its AI products rather than from its original software. This growth shows just how well its aligned with where the market is heading, and with $400M from major investors, it continues to expand its platform, adding AI tools that connect across legal workflows. By bringing together case management, depositions, contracts and drafting into a single system, Filevine has positioned itself as a central operating platform for modern legal teams.

You'll be working on

  • We operate as a focused, senior, high-output group inside Filevine
  • We move quickly, ship directly into Word and the browser, and define how AI shows up across the contract lifecycle for thousands of legal teams
  • Design is central to everything we do
  • Lawyers notice every detail, and their trust depends on the quality and clarity of the experience we build
  • You’ll talk to customers, sit in on review sessions, and map real workflows
  • Translate ambiguous product requirements into clear flows, UI patterns, and prototypes
  • Design and implement UI surfaces across Word add-ins and the web app
  • Build high-fidelity mocks that communicate ideas quickly to founders and engineers
  • Write production-quality React and TypeScript to improve UX without waiting on engineering
  • Define and maintain the design system, visual language, and interaction patterns
  • Simplify multi-step legal workflows into intuitive, compact interfaces
  • Validate ideas directly with users and iterate quickly based on feedback
  • Identify UX gaps, propose changes, and drive them from concept to shipped feature
  • Redesigning the Word add-in pane to reduce vertical layers and improve action discoverability
  • Mapping user contract-review workflows and turning them into cleaner UI flows
  • Building a new design system that brings consistency to actions, drawers, modals, and toolbars
  • Prototyping a small-screen version of a complex playbook editor
  • Simplifying the view: progress bars, action bars, multi-document navigation
  • Improving the UI/UX based on customer interviews
  • Designing and implementing an updated clause-analysis UX with fewer steps and clearer decisions

We're looking for

  • Bias toward action: you see something broken, you fix it
  • Ability to create polished mocks and prototypes without a dedicated designer
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with incomplete inputs
  • Experience owning both design and engineering for a feature end to end
  • Deep product taste and strong user empathy
  • Bonus: experience with AI products, legal workflows, or highly technical interfaces
  • Ability to run lightweight research: user interviews, workflow mapping, usability tests
  • Experience designing for constrained interfaces (plugins, iOS, add-ins, extensions)
  • Strong frontend engineering skills in React/TypeScript
