Product Engineer Akur8

Akur8 is one of the leading providers of insurance pricing and rating technology. Our mission is to modernize how insurers assess, price, and manage risk.

Our SaaS platform combines transparent machine learning, predictive analytics, and rating technology to turn complex insurance workflows into scalable, data-driven systems. Insurers use it to model and rate risk up to 10x faster while keeping transparency, explainability, and regulatory trust.

As the product suite expands, we are building an end-to-end platform for pricing, reserving, and forward-looking risk decisions.

Recognized globally, Akur8 has been featured in:

• CB Insights' Insurtech 50 (2025)

• CNBC's InsurTech Top 150 (2025)

• InsurTech200 Global Insurtech Top 100 (2025)

• Professional Equality Index 97/100 (2025)

Akur8 has 50+ nationalities across 8 global offices and serves 420+ clients across 4 continents. We’re an equal opportunities employer, and we value the different perspectives that help shape better products and decisions.

Insurance companies use Akur8 to decide the price of millions of policies. We are looking for a talented Product Engineer to build the features they rely on to do it.

You will join the Pricing team, which builds the part of the Akur8 platform that Actuaries, Underwriters and Product Owners use to design, test and deploy their rates. Your mission is to scope, design and implement features that automate the rating process at insurance companies, from the first discussion of a client need to the feature running in production.

Much of the work is deciding what to build, not only building it. You will work with Product Managers, Designers, Actuaries and other Engineers to understand how insurers price risk, why they work the way they do, and where software can make them faster and more accurate. A good understanding of modelling, maths and logic is needed for this.

At its core, this is a hands-on software engineering role. You will spend significant time writing code, designing data models, building backend and frontend services, and ensuring the systems you ship are scalable, tested, and maintainable.

With AI being a reliable support for implementation, your main value will come from understanding the business context, the architecture and the data models as these will determine the quality of your deliveries. Our platform runs on AWS with Rust, Java, Python, and Angular. Prior experience with them is a plus.

You will work on the core of the platform from your first weeks and see the impact of your work on real clients.

In this role, you will:

• Own product features end to end: clarify the need with the product team, scope it, design the solution, build it and follow it in production.

• Turn requests from Actuaries, Underwriters and Product Owners into a clear scope, and challenge a requirement when a simpler solution meets the need.

• Work in an AI native-engineering team: delegate implementation to deliver quickly, reviewing, test and own responsibility for everything you ship.

• Balance delivery speed and robustness according to the client’s priorities.

Your work will help insurers price risk faster and more accurately, and will expand what Akur8 can offer its clients.

We’re looking for someone driven by outcomes: things done fast, done well, and useful to our clients.

• You have completed or are finishing a PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or another quantitative field. No professional experience is required.

• You have written code during your research and want to grow in software engineering practices such as testing, code review and system design, using AI coding assistants as part of your daily work.

• You are comfortable with ambiguity: you can take a loosely defined problem, structure it and move it forward without waiting for a step-by-step brief.

• You take a pragmatic approach to writing code: you care about solving the actual problem rather than chasing perfection, and you can explain the trade-offs behind your technical choices.

• You care about results more than about technology: you want to understand why a feature matters to the end user before deciding how to build it.

Prior experience with our tech stack (Rust, Java, Python, Angular, AWS) or the insurance space is welcome, but not required. We invest heavily in onboarding; what matters most is your curiosity and appetite to learn.

Important: You must possess an employment status: French or Schengen area nationality or a ‘carte de séjour’ that will allow you to work from our Paris office. We are equally open to the visa sponsorship of non-EU candidates as long as they are already in possession of their final diploma / attestation of their final academic results.

As a newcomer, you'll be joining a diverse, highly skilled and motivated team, with a strong Tech DNA, colleagues that are eager to share their knowledge and passion.

But it’s not all work, you’ll also be part of a dynamic team that enjoys spending time together and having fun, including karaoke, team lunches, playing sports as well as the occasional ‘happy hour’.

In addition to this, we will provide you with:

• Competitive salary + annual bonus

• Company shares / equity

• Hybrid office / home office policy

• 25 days of paid holidays + RTT

• Gym membership with Wellpass

• On-site gym facilities / corporate sporting activities

• Excellent health insurance (including possibility of family coverage)

• Swile lunch vouchers

• Public transportation reimbursement + sustainable mobility allowance

• Relocation support

• Sponsored crèche access

• Free cafeteria with fresh fruit, drinks and snacks

• Great office in the heart of the 9th arrondissement of Paris
