Computer Vision Engineer - Internship - Paris

Unissey is a French deeptech startup based in Paris. Founded in 2018, the company offers a robust and user-friendly authentication solution based on facial biometrics, whose security relies on passive liveness detection. The solution, which was fully developed by its internal R&D team, compares a user live selfie video to a reference image (typically from an ID document), and silently verifies the genuineness of the request. With services and activities moving online at an exponential rate, identity fraud has surged and relying on a robust and seamless online authentication process is becoming a necessity to offer trust and safety when browsing.

As a research intern within Unissey R&D team, you will be contributing to the development of our solution, both improving our current algorithms in production and helping to lay the foundations of future iterations. You will have the opportunity to work on the latest innovations in the field.

During this internship, you will focus on:

• Implementing state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms, basing yourself on extensive research of the existing literature and your knowledge of machine learning.
• Optimizing current algorithms, by applying compression techniques to limit the size and inference time or Unissey’s models.
• Developing techniques that mitigate bias to help Unissey building a fairer AI that works equally well for everyone.

The research area may span over our whole analysis flow, from the face detection, to the face comparison and liveness detection. Focus on additional biometric applications, such as age detection, may also be part of the internship topics, depending on the intern’s prior knowledge.

• Pursuing an MSc / MEng degree in computer science, applied mathematics or any related technical field.
• Prior experience in building and training deep learning algorithms.
• Good theoretical knowledge in computer vision, neural networks, and other DL techniques.
• Excellent coding skills in python (experience with pytorch is a plus).
• Great sense of initiative, autonomy and scientific rigour.
• Curiosity and a strong interest for DL/ML topics and the latest scientific breakthrough.
• Proficiency in English (ability to quickly read and understand research papers).
• Prior experience with Git and collaborative tools is a plus.
• Personal side projects or Kaggle competitions are a plus.
