Malt is growing rapidly. In order to reach our ambitious goals, we're looking for a great Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join the growing data team.

The Data team works very closely with the product team to create a world where everyone is free to choose the best people to work with. 

At Malt, we believe that curiosity is an asset. The whole team participates in the product architecture, we regularly engage in discussions on the best way to do things. 

We are organized in tribes. Each tribe is responsible for a part of the product from floor to ceiling (user research, design, architecture, support, technical debt, production...), and imagines the best solutions to reach the product OKRs and thus contribute directly to the company's growth.

Key responsibilities ✨

  • Collaborate with other data scientists and research data scientists to improve our search algorithm and recommendation systems used to match freelancers to projects.
  • Build new data products and models to improve freelancers or clients' experience on Malt.
  • Implement and test new models in production.
  • Design measurement and monitoring of models performance.
  • Advance the Data disciplines at Malt, including driving data best practices such as improving and automating processes, building new data tools and data sets, data education around the company and mentoring and developing others.
  • About you 🧑‍🚀

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience and a degree (Master or PhD is a plus) in a quantitative field
  • Diversified experience building recommender systems (RecSys) or learning to rank models.
  • Ability to design machine learning (ML) models and put them into production
  • Strong knowledge of a programming language, ideally Python. 
  • Experience with ML libraries (Pytorch, Tensorflow, XGBoost, Scikit-Learn, LightGBM, …).
  • Good knowledge of SQL
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive and cooperative attitude that fosters collaboration and teamwork both inside and outside the department
  • Comfortable in navigating and excelling in fast paced environments with no playbook for success, and able to simplify
  • Nice to have: 

  • Experience working with tech and product. 
  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP), graph neural network (GNN) would be a huge advantage.
  • Experience with a Cloud environment, ideally GCP, as well as Airflow and BigQuery

  • Interview with your future manager, Claire (VP Data) to discuss your experience and the role in more detail (30 mins)
  • Technical discussion on machine learning with some members from the team (1h)
  • Take home test (2 hours or optional if you have enough open source projects online)
  • Data Past Project Interview (1h):

  • Take home test or open sources projects debrief
  • Presentation of a past project to the team
  • Discussion with a stakeholder (Product, Marketing, Engineering or Operations)
  • Final interview with a C-Level, to discuss Malt's long term vision
